It’s Winter and it’s time for our Winter TBR to show you guys what we all plan on reading this December and the upcoming months. The year and the decade are almost over but we will not stop bringing you the horror and science fiction books, movies and more!

Lilyn’s TBR
A Blade So Black (Nightmare-Verse #1) by L.L. McKinney

“Even though most fairy-tale re-tellings don’t really excite me, Alice in Wonderland always draws me in. I think it’s because of how freaking twisted the original story is. And this one has Alice as black so I had to give it a read.” – Lilyn
The Chaos by Naolo Hopkinson

“It looks like an excellent urban fantasy and I’ve been wanting to read Naolo Hopkinson for awhile now. The back calls it a mix of Jamaican legends, fairy tales and pure imagination. So, bring it! Also, like L.L. McKinney, she is a PoC writer and 2020 is all about reading diverse authors for me.” – Lilyn
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

“I picked this up in Barnes & Noble, read some of it and liked it. Tracy sent me her copy so I could spend my money on another book instead. Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of Seanan McGuire’s work. I prefer her Mira Grant novels. However, Middlegame looks deliciously twisted so I am looking forward to giving it a proper read.” – Lilyn

Gracie’s TBR
Murder by Candlelight: The Gruesome Slayings Behind Our Romance with the Macabre by Michael Knox Beran

“I really like reading about older murders and seeing the beginning of criminal justice and investigation.” – Gracie
Dark Dreams: A Collection of Horror and Suspense by Black Writers edited by Brandon Massey

“I have been wanting to listen to this for a long time (I have it on audio) and by all that’s unholy I will finish it this winter!” – Gracie
100+ Black Women in Horror by Sumiko Saulson

“It’s more of a reference book but I’m hoping it will expand on our knowledge of authors to look for along with some of our more well known favorites.” – Gracie
Gracie’s TBP
The 13th Doll

“Fans of The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour have been eagerly awaiting this game and I can’t wait to get my hands on the puzzles.” – Gracie
Moons of Madness

“I am really looking forward and I hope it brings the Lovecraftian scares like I’m hoping it will” – Gracie
Nico’s TBR
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

“One day I will actually read this entire book. I’ve started and stopped about five times but I’m determined to get through it!” – Nico
Tracy’s TBR
Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice

“It was recommended to me by a bookish friend and it’s post-apocalyptic. Win-win. I’ve also been trying to read more Native American authors and Rice is one that came highly recommended.” – Tracy
Night Film by Marisha Pessl

“This book sounds great and I’ve heard either amazing things or not so great things. I’m looking forward to finding out where I land.” – Tracy
Feed (Newsflesh #1) by Mira Grant

“I’ve heard amazing things about this refreshing take on zombies. My second annual post-apocalyptic January is coming up and this is definitely in the line up and will be my first read for 2020 for the LOHF “Ladies First” challenge. And the Lilyn loves it so it’s definitely worth a look-see.” – Tracy

Olly’s TBR
Ghost Train by Stephen Laws

“This will be my January pick for Carry on Screaming. Looking forward to reading Laws again. It’s been awhile.” – Olly
Olly’s TBP
Halo: Master Chief Collection

“I really want to revisit it and hog my son’s new PC.” – Olly

Sam’s TBR
A Shining in the Shadows (Gabriel Davenport #2) by Beverly Lee

“I read (and absolutely loved) the first book in the trilogy last year but I’m awful about getting through a series in a timely manner. Winter feels like a great time to return to Gabriel’s world, though” – Sam
Ghost Story by Peter Straub

“It’s been on my TBR for ages and it seems like the perfect winter horror. Every winter I say I’ll read it and I never do. I’m determined to finally get to it this time!” – Sam

Sian’s TBR
The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale #2) by Margaret Atwood

“Mainly because my loan from the library will come in then!” – Sian
The White Dragon (Pern #3) by Anne McCaffrey

“I’ve yet to finish the series and I enjoy reading these books around Christmas-time” – Sian

I hope some of these books are on your list. If not, let us know if any of them interest you! Let us know your Winter TBR down below!

Would love to see your thoughts on the Chaos. I own the book but haven’t read it yet.
The Beran book caught my eye, too. Wonder how it compares to Halttunen’s “Murder Most Foul.”
Oooh, what’s that?
Academic book on how early colonial and antebellum Americans viewed crime, from making sermons about it to lurid penny press coverage. I’ve linked to a description:
