As a counterpart to our Mother’s Day post the Kali Krew is bringing you a list of some of the best (and worst) fathers in fiction. Now, when we say best mothers and fathers we mean anyone who serves as a guardian to a child. Step parents, adoptive parents, foster and everything in-between.

BEST
Bobby Singer from Supernatural
Chosen by Lilyn

“Uncle Bobby was a great father figure to ‘the boys’. He was there for them but also there to give them a hearty “Idjits!” when they deserved it.” – Gracie
Harry Mason from Silent Hill
Chosen by Gracie and Shawn

“Harry Mason was an awesome adopted father to first Cheryl and then Heather (who is also Cheryl…it’s complicated). In the movie adaptation, they had the opportunity to show that blood doesn’t necessarily mean anything when you’re fighting for your child. And to show a genuinely good father. But, no. Apparently caring for your child is ‘feminine’ and so they changed Harry to Rose.” – Gracie

Kang Ji-koo from Flu
Chosen by Gracie

“He might not be the ‘official’ dad throughout the movie but damned if he does not go the extra Dad mile and then some” – Gracie

Eric and Andrew in The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
Chosen by Tracy

The Man from The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Chosen by Olly

Andy McGee from Firestarter by Stephen King
Chosen by Sian

“He will do anything to try and protect his daughter, Charlie!” – Sian

Chief O’Brien from Star Trek: The Next Generation
Chosen by Eliza

Captain Benjamin Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Chosen by Brian

“He’s not just good. He’s great.” – Brian
Seok-woo from Train to Busan
Chosen by Bill

Lee from The Walking Dead game
Chosen by Tiny Tentacle

Noah Bennet from Heroes
Chosen by Bill

“Kind of a worst to best evolution” – Bill
Walter Bishop from Fringe
Chosen by Bill

“Also another worst to best situation” – Bill

WORST
John Winchester from Supernatural
Chosen by Lilyn

“We haven’t seen the whole series but as far as we know there are several reasons why John Winchester is a bad father (not least of which is not showing up when Dean was on his literal deathbed).” – Gracie
Jacob from Devil’s Creek by Todd Kiesling
Chosen by Tracy

Jack Torrance from The Shining by Stephen King

She also does a weekly Focus on the Frightful feature, and is the site list-maker. She is also in control of the Sci-Fi & Scary podcast which will relaunch soon.
Not sure how far you’ve got with Supernatural (I haven’t watched recent series either but did watch quite a few) but things get quite complicated and we learn a few things about the Winchester family. I agree on the Dad from Train to Busan. I was thinking about him…
I got to season 5 so I’m more than sure the lore got much deeper, lol
The dad in the Korean monster movie, ‘The Host’.
Chosen by Ichabod.
That sounds interesting! Would he be on the good or the bad?
