It’s December. The new year is almost upon us and, man, did this year go by fast it seems like. New Year’s Resolutions are a tradition that most people share but here at Sci-Fi & Scary we’ve never really shared ours. This year is also a bit special since it’s also the end of a decade and the start of a new one. So we thought we’d share our reviewing resolutions and goals with you!

Lilyn

- To read and promote more diverse authors
- Get better about DNF’ing quicker and not dragging a book out for months because I’m really not that interested. It doesn’t do anyone any good.
- Make more contacts on the sci-fi side of the world to help strengthen that side of the site.

Gracie

- To fit in more diverse authors and to read books with better representation in all aspects.
- To read more, both new books and take some time to revisit old favourites.
- To try and increase my reach online and be more social this year!
- Play more lesser known indie horror games to increase visibility there.

Nico

- Read more diverse authors.
- Read more sub-genres such as feminist horror, asylum horror and creature features.
- Be realistic with my Netgalley list and try not to get too far behind.

Tracy

- Stick with my balance of personal reads and review books.
- Being better at cross-posting my reviews in a timely manner.

Olly

- Rate and review more diversely
- Review more science fiction and less horror

Sam

- Be kinder to myself about reading. That means learning to say no when my review plate is full and not going insane on requests until it feels like a chore.
- Read more diversely. Different genres, more own voices books, more books by PoC authors, and backgrounds different from my own.
- Keep up my newly acquired love for movies! I really enjoyed doing Spooktober and the Kali Krew watches in 2019. I want to keep more on top of movies in general, maybe do the occasional review.

V. Castro

- To read more! It’s tough between home life (3 small kids) and writing.

Sian

- DNF sooner and don’t have books that drag on for months.
- Don’t set high goals that have me obsessing hard then burning out at the end of the year
- Get back on my horror bandwagon. It’s been soooo much fantasy lately.
- Try to pick back up my love of reading physical books.
- Continue on listening and reviewing audios of all genres (or at least all genres that are relevant to the site).
- Never request a book for review without reading the bloody blurb!

Now you all know what we’re going to try our damndest to do this next year. Do you guys have any particular reading goals? Let us know down below!
GracieKat was the first co-host of Sci-Fi & Scary, Lilyn’s partner-in-crime, and sub-head of the Kali Krew. She reviews horror books, movies, and games for the site. She also does a weekly Focus on the Frightful feature, and is the site list-maker. She is also in control of the Sci-Fi & Scary podcast which will relaunch soon.
I can relate to a lot of those – and I’d love it if you do more scifi 🙂 Happy new year!
