Here at Sci-Fi & Scary we like Valentine’s Day…in our own way. Don’t get us wrong. Only Gracie really feels the need to whinge and moan about it and she doesn’t necessarily speak for the rest of the Kali Krew.
There’s nothing wrong with the flowers, the hearts, the candy (Lilyn especially appreciates the deeply discounted candy the next day). However, some of us like our romance and sweet milk chocolate with a touch of the bitter and dark occasionally. Below is a list of the Kali Krew’s picks for the dark side of Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!

Bad Valentines by Steve Vernon

Black Valentines by Barrymore Tebbs

Bloody Valentine by Lucy Swing

Dying Valentine by Calvin Demmer

If You Died Tomorrow I’d Eat Your Corpse by Wrath James White

Some of these books – most we are sure you’ve heard of. So this time you educate us. What books, films, or games should absolutely be on next years list?
We would also like to leave you with a couple of spectacularly bad poems.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
We’re sure you’re sweet
That’s the tweet
– Lilyn
Roses are red
Violets are blue
If you lost your head
I’d hide it from you
– Gracie
Pssst: Lilyn had a “Roses are red” challenge to all of the authors out there up on Twitter tonight. It ended at midnight but you should go check it out to read the entries and see the poetry!
