Haunted High-Ons: The Darkness Rises #ComicReview

Upon learning that ghosts and demons are real, rap stars Madrox and Monoxide (collectively known as Twiztid) have begun to take the idea of ghost hunting with their new spirit companion Felicia a lot more seriously… or at least as seriously as the two fun-loving jokesters can. However, as The Darkness rises around them on a house call gone wrong, they quickly find what’s happening is no laughing matter!

Twiztid: Haunted High-Ons – The Darkness Rises

Twiztid: Haunted-High Ons is a collaborative effort between Dirk Manning and the music group Twiztid. Twiztid is a Detroit-based horrorcore duo that I’ve listened to a few times so I thought it was an interesting mix, to be sure.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Dirk Manning at a con recently and he was very friendly. We chatted a bit and hopefully we’ll be connecting on an interview in the future. Hopefully he brings Cthulhu. He and Kali would get along well.

But! What about the story? I really, really liked it. It was fun, very creepy and atmospheric. Also hilarious. I chuckled out loud several times while reading Haunted-High Ons. The writing was clever and the personalities popped. Madrox and Monoxide are really interesting to read about. I’d be up for reading more of them. I really need to get the very first issue because I want to know where the ghostly lady came from and why she’s hanging around with these guys. It implies a bit that she may just be tied to the building but I’m not sure. And I want to know! I’d also like to know how the guys went from being scam ghosthunters to only mostly scammers.

And I definitely want to know where the Darkness Rising series is going. It looks freaking interesting as all hell and, frankly, the art and colors are fantastic. I love a great comic where everything just works so great together. The book itself was very well put together. Nice, thick pages with just the right amount of gloss. All in all I would definitely recommend this.
