The time in which we must buy presents for family and friends is nearly upon us. And everyone is starting look for suggestions. Thankfully, Broke and Bookish gives me an excuse to talk about gift ideas for female science fiction fans by making the topic of this Top Ten Tuesday a “Holiday Gifts” freebie. This list will include both a book and a soft or shiny item to gift with it. (Pictures of the soft and shinies go either to Amazon or to ThinkGeek.)
Side Note: An alternate title for this list is What My Family Needs to Get Me For Christmas!
Gift Ideas for Female Science Fiction Fans
If she likes Firefly: Try Becky Chambers’ The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and this Firefly plushie.
If she likes Doctor Who: Get her Just One Damned Thing After Another (St Mary’s #1) by Jodi Taylor, but don’t forget this awesome Don’t Blink tee either.
If she’s into classics, go ultra-classic: Jule’s Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth and this cool Old Book Messenger Bag.
If you’ve heard her talk about the need for diversity: Let her have Corinne Duyvis’ On the Edge of Gone and this cool tea infuser.
Is Star Wars her thing? Then try another space opera in the form of Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey, but don’t forget a cool little BB-8 mug she can drink from at the same time.
If she’s a fan of the superhero movies out lately, then she needs: Ex-Heroes by Peter Clines, and this awesome Deadpool backpack. (Because trust me, backpacks aren’t just useful for school!)
Did she rave over The Martian last year? Then she might like another hard sci-fi book called Tao Zero by Poul Anderson. It has that same sense of battling against the inevitable, and yet never giving up. (And a kind of happy ending, too.) Oh, and this geeky caffeine necklace too.
Maybe she’s more about Star Trek than Star Wars? Give her Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and a fluffily Star Trek robe to read it in.
What would you buy the sci-fi fans in your life?
OMG, I never knew that BB-8 mug existed, but I really, REALLY want it right now! It’s just too good. I have Leviathan awakens on my TBR for a while now, definitely bumping it up the list if it’s similar to Star Wars!
Warning on the Leviathan Wakes – I recommended it more because it was a space opera, not necessarily because it was like Star Wars in any other way. But it does have a big good against bad, and lots of action and space fights.
Space opera sounds exactly what I would want, but I’ll keep that in mind when approaching Leviathan Wakes.
Haha – I absolutely want the robe! What a great list. I actually want the mug, and the tea infuser – I”m not being greedy of course (they go together well – a mug to infuse your tea in).
Lynn 😀
Yes, they do go together. I think the tea infuser is just neat looking . May end up getting it for myself.
Me too – they’re fabulous!
I love this list of Christmas gift ideas. I want everything on it.
Glad I was able to nail it!
As a Firefly fan, I’ll have to look into The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. Thanks for the recommendation.
I bet you’ll love it!
That book shaped messenger bag is fantastic! ThinkGeek has some of the best stuff.
Great list! 🙂
Yes, they do. I wish I had the money to indulge!
Love these pairings, very nice. And I like the half of these books I’ve read, so I will have to check out the other half!
BB-8 is my favorite Star Wars character – him and Chewy. I love your alternative title for this list 🙂
Chewy is AWESOME! LOL
That BB-8 mug is so cool, I need it in my life ahah 🙂 Thank you for sharing this 🙂
Welcome!
I need that Don’t Blink tee shirt! I’m going to subtly send this to my hubby :p
Don’t be subtle! Just point at it and say “I need this. You need to buy this for me. It’s almost Christmas.” Men don’t get subtle. LOL
