Top Ten Tuesday: Best Anti-in-the-Mood Books

TTTBanner

As usual, TTT is brought to you courtesy of The Broke and the Bookish.

These books are meant to yank you right out of wistfully dreaming about having a Valentine’s date, and having hurt feels as you contemplate your apparently empty future. (If you’re in that kind of mood, of course. If not, its just a list of good classic dystopian novels.)

Because, really, who can think of hearts, butterflies, and potential babies when THIS could be your future… (covers link to Goodreads.)

  1. Wow what a wonderful list!!! Totally agree about 1984 😂
I’ve read HG Wells’s The Invisible Man and wasn’t really impressed, so I’m kinda reluctant to read the Time Machine! Should I give it a try anyways?

  2. I remember doing a dystopian unit when I was in highschool, and you listed my two favorite books from it (1984 and BNW). Plus I love F451, which my friends and I picked to read for our book club. I also love the concept for this list: anti-valentines feels. Great picks!

    My TTT

  3. hahaha I love this spin on the topic. I’d definitely go for 1984 if I weren’t in the mood for the hearts and flowers 😛

  4. Great post! I’d pick 1984 over a Valentine! It’s an all time favorite <3 I still have to get Brave New World, but Fahrenheit 451 is on my list this week!

  5. Nice list! I was not ready for the Unwind series–there’s a scene in one of the books that still haunts me sometimes… o.O
I’ve read all of these but Logan’s Run and The Dean Machine, which I shall have to look up.

      1. All I can say without too many spoilers is that it’s the scene where (someone) is unwound. It was the emotion that got me–I was right there, and what a terrifying experience that is!

  6. This is also a list of books that I really should have read by now but still haven’t gotten to. Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, 1984, The Time Machine … all books I’ve been meaning to read for so long and just haven’t had a chance yet (coincidentally also all books I already own). The Road is great though, I loved that one.
