I think you can tell what’s going to end up happening just by the cover, so all I’ll say is Green Thumb is a creepy, amusing horror short story that proves you really don’t want to get on the wrong side of a crazy gardener. It also actually manages to have you rooting for the protagonist within a very short amount of time. Hatsby is definitely talented, and I can see myself seeking out more of his work.
Its well worth the read, especially if you like Tales from the Crypt stories. This definitely fits right in with the type of stories that are creepy, with a heavy dash of absurd at the end. (It might have helped that I was watching Supernatural when I read this.) The images in this story definitely stayed with me after I read it, and even now (as I amend this almost a month after reading it) I can still recall exactly what happens in it. Given that this is an almost tiny short story, that definitely says something about the author’s abilities.
