Welcome to the next check-in for the 2017 Horror Reading Challenge! Lots of you are doing fantastic on your reading challenges, and some of you aren’t doing as well as you might have hoped. That’s to be expected.
Just keep going, and you’ll get to the end of it eventually 😉
If you floundering, what has kept you from succeeding? If you’re having trouble finding books you think you’ll like in the horror genre, just hit me up @scifiandscary or Gracie @areyouscaredyet on Twitter for some suggestions. We read a lot of different horror, so we’ll surely be able to point you at something!
We’re going to try something new this month. While you’re still going to list your July reads in the linky below, it will be open all month so that you can list your August books as you read them.
Oh, and as August 1st has passed us, sign-ups for the challenge for this year have officially closed.
How are you doing so far this year?
Nervous Neophytes: You signed up to read up to 7 books.
Intrepid Initiates: You signed up to read 8-15 books.
Omniscient Oracles: You’ve signed up to read 20-25 books.
Linky!
Finally, an announcement; I’m cancelling the Sci-Fi Challenges. They don’t have nearly the participation, and I’m honestly just stretched too thin to try to bolster it up and give it the attention that it deserves. Anyone currently participating in it is free to continue at their own pace with the list, but the official challenge is over.
If you signed up for either of the sci-fi challenges and you’d been participating, you can enter the rafflecopter drawing for a gift card to Thrift Books below.

I’ve read 17 of my projected 25. I don’t think I’ll have trouble completing my goal. This is one of my favorite challenges and thanks so much for hosting it. My next horror read will be Hunter Shea’s new one – Optical Delusion.
Ooh I can’t wait to see what you think of Optical Delusion!
Re: The Horror Challenge
A slow down for me this past month, as I am rereading It and I feel like it should count for about 5 books…or maybe 6… 😉
Seriously, though, it is definitely a time commitment.
Any of King’s books are! I don’t mind if you want to count it as two. lol. It part 1, It part 2.
I’m sorry to hear that the Horror challenge won’t be continuing, but I understand. Blogging is a lot of work, and I’m sorry to hear that participation wasn’t what you were hoping for. I used to host reading challenges years ago, and I also found that not many participated. I think readers fall into two categories, where they’re either challenge junkies (like me, LOL) or they don’t do them at all.
Anyway, I appreciate that you did host the horror challenge and I’ll continue to keep track of my progress for the rest of the year. Have a great summer!
Darlene – The *horror* challenge is continuing. The *Sci-Fi* one is not.
Will the Goodreads page still be up? I am going to want to write a book report on the adventures of Hiro Protagonist.
