Flyby Five: 5 Splendid Spider Movies

Flyby Five Banner

This Flyby Five we’re looking at those creepy crawly things that make most of us scream. They drop on us in showers, they’re lurking in our shoes, or, if you watch movies, they’re the size of small horses and looking to destroy us all. That’s right, this Flyby Five we’re looking at 5 Splendid Spider Movies.

Flyby Five, where we abandon all sense of seriousness and do silly lists about whatever pops into our heads. This segment will be posted every Wednesday we feel like posting it. This is not a serious list, nor is it a “Top 5” list. And there is every possible chance that some of these lists or the language in these lists may not be PG-13 friendly. You have been warned. -L&G

5 Splendid Spider Movies

Arachnophobia

A species of South American killer spider hitches a lift to the U.S. in a coffin and starts to breed and kill.

Director: Frank Marshall

Really, this one is the ultimate of the splendid spider movies, isn’t it?

Arachnophobia

Lavalantula

Volcanic eruptions in Los Angeles unleash a swarm of gigantic, lava-breathing tarantulas.

Director: Mike Mendez

Lavalantula

Big Ass Spider

A giant alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampage the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed.

Director: Mike Mendez

This one holds a special place in my heart. Maybe it’s from the goofiness of Lin Shaye’s character in the beginning. – LG

Big Ass Spider

Eight Legged Freaks

Poisonous spiders get exposed to a noxious chemical that causes them to grow to monumental proportions.

Spiders 3D

After a Soviet space station crashes into a New York City subway tunnel, a species of venomous spiders is discovered, and soon they mutate to gigantic proportions and wreak havoc on the city.

Director: Tibor Takács

Definitely the weakest of the bunch, but fits in nicely with our spider movies theme.
