Book cover for Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits #1

Armstrong and the Vault of Spirits #1

I’ll admit, this one isn’t normally the type of thing I would check out, but the ‘beneath the seediest dive bar’ has me curious, as well as the mention of treasure.. This could succeed wildly or fail horribly.

What secrets await inside the Vault of Spirits?

Deep beneath New York City’s seediest dive bar, Armstrong – the hard-hitting, harder-partying immortal veteran of history’s greatest escapades – is hosting an invitation-only affair for his most beloved friends and allies! Archer… Ivar, Timewalker… Faith… Quantum and Woody… And special guests from across the Valiant Universe… All have been offered a seat at the table for a personally guided tour of Armstrong’s most valuable and tightly guarded treasure… From the Great Flood to ancient Greece to the height of the Crusades, raise a glass as Armstrong recounts the true stories of his wine-soaked path down through the ages and the artifacts that reside within his own secret archive!

ARCHER & ARMSTRONG maestro Fred Van Lente returns with rising star CAFU (RAPTURE) to chronicle the first landmark solo adventure in the very (very, very) long life and times of Valiant’s very own disorderly immortal!

Book cover for Van Helsing vs Robyn Hood

Van Helsing vs Robyn Hood #2

I have feelings about this one that make me feel a bit ashamed of myself. Like because I’m having issues with the fact that they turned Van Helsing and Robyn Hood into girls. I don’t think I like this. I know I shouldn’t have a problem with it, and I don’t really have a problem with it, but at the same time I’m vaguely discomfited. Like “Really? You just put boobs on ’em so you could dress ’em sexy, didn’t you?” So naturally I kind of want to read it now just to see if the characters are interesting or if its yet another excuse to draw big boobs and long legs.

After the events of the last issue, Robyn is infected with a powerful vampire serum that is being tested on human subjects. Now, Liesel must find those responsible for creating the terrifying drug, while she simultaneously looks for a way to cure her best friend before she’s forced to kill her.

Scarlett's Strike Force #2

Scarlett’s Strike Force #2

I have never had the desire to read a GI Joe graphic novel until I read the first line of the synopsis below. Suddenly, I realized, I must have this one. I must! Gimme! NOW.

Savage jungles, dinosaur fights, magic rituals, Kung-Fu, monster trucks, giant robots, weird science, strange villains and more-and it’s only the second issue! Roadblock’s team continues its hunt for the brand-new Cobra Commander as trouble brews inside of G.I. Joe’s underwater base. By Aubrey Sitterson (G.I. Joe, Street Fighter x G.I. Joe) and Nelson Daniel (Clue, Dungeons & Dragons). No wonder people are calling it The Best Action Comic Ever!

Book cover for Haunted Horror #32

Haunted Horror #32

So the art is good-bad-maybe cheesy, but it had nothing to do with the main reason I selected this one for highlighting today. Read the synopsis and let me know why you think I included it! (See how well some of you know me, haha!)

Your favorite horror anthology heads for the high seas of screams, in this sinisterly saturated selection of soaking-wet weirdness straight from Davey Jones’ locker! Classic creeps from the deeps are surfacing on a tidal wave of terror! Hold your breath—Haunted Horror #32 is just around the bends! Get it? Get it!

Now, in all seriousness, it’s also included because even though its #32 in a series, its an anthology, so I doubt you’ve had to read even a few of the ones that came before this.

So, apparently I need to give up on the idea of giving you guys 5 comics every week. Four seems to be how it works out. There just never seems to be five that I’m interested enough in to showcase.

Hey, do you guys and gals have any #MustRead graphic novels that you think I need to check out?? Lemme know below!

  1. Haunted Horror. Could it be the classic creeps from the deep! Some of these look interesting. My son and I recently finished the Sandman series and we’re looking for something new to read together. I’ll have him take a look and see if any of these interest him.

    1. The whole cast on that cover is interesting looking. Armstrong (at least I’m assuming that’s Armstrong) doesn’t really look like anything special and that can kind of make you curious about him.
